Supporting Your Skin Barrier Through Winter
· 6 min read

Cold air, indoor heating and lower humidity all put pressure on the skin barrier — the outermost layer that keeps moisture in and irritants out. In consultation, we see a seasonal shift in what most clients need, even when their long-term goals haven't changed.
What changes in winter
- Lower environmental humidity draws moisture from the skin more quickly
- Indoor heating further dries the air around us
- Hot showers and baths, however tempting, can strip natural oils
How we adjust treatment plans
For clients partway through a skin programme, we often recommend:
- Spacing resurfacing treatments slightly further apart
- Prioritising hydration-focused treatments such as polynucleotides
- Reviewing homecare routines for barrier-supporting ingredients
A note on consistency
The biggest factor in skin health over time isn't any single treatment — it's consistency. A simplified, barrier-focused routine through the colder months, agreed with your practitioner, is often more effective than pushing ahead with an unchanged summer plan.
If your skin has felt more reactive or tight recently, it's worth mentioning at your next appointment — we can adjust your plan accordingly.
